10 Most Emotional Onstage Moments In Rock

2. Where Did You Sleep Last Night - Nirvana Unplugged

Every so often, a band has one of those gigs that proved to be absolutely magical. From the way they approach the stage to the massive amount of passion that they put into their music, it's almost like you can feel them reaching some other plain of existence through their music. Though these moments often just exist in the minds of fans, MTV Unplugged managed to capture one of those moments for Nirvana on camera.

Filmed after the Seattle icons had released their second major label album In Utero, Kurt Cobain had put proper care into making sure this unplugged performance was more than just a run through of songs. Across the night, various covers and alternative versions of songs helped paint Cobain less like the punk rock transplant and more in the realm of the weary songwriter a la Neil Young. Once you got to the final song, Cobain laid his entire soul on Where Did You Sleep Last Night?.

Blowing up Lead Belly's original to mammoth proportions with his vocal performance, Cobain sounds like he's about to rip his throat out with every single word. By the time you get to the final line of "I'll shiver the whole night through," Cobain comes up for air with a look that almost makes you feel like he has left his body for a second. Even though Cobain wouldn't be in the land of the living for much longer, this is still one of the most electrifying performances he had ever pulled off.
