10 Most Expensive Music Videos Ever Made

3. 'Express Yourself' - Madonna

Cost: $5m ($10.3m with inflation)

Release: 1989

Director David Fincher did here what Mark Romanek couldn't in 'Bedtime Story'. He kept things in-tune with Madonna's image, and constructed videography that complemented her best music. That's true in spite of the lyrical weirdness; Madge seems to suggest that every woman just needs a right good shag from a muscle man when they're feeling down.

Fair enough.

There are loads of baby-oiled blokes around in this one. It's like Madonna had just fallen from the skies during WrestleMania VI, and that time period would be fitting. 'Express Yourself' was launched in May 1989, less than one year before Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior put on their 'Ultimate Challenge' in Toronto.

OK, enough wrestling chat. This music video is much more appealing to look at than the likes of Puff Daddy's 'Victory' or MC Hammer's guff. It's straightforward pop goodness, and it's obvious to see what vids Gwen Stefani was watching.
