10 Most Hated Classic Rock Albums (From Great Bands)

3. Technical Ecstasy - Black Sabbath

Black Sabbath were a gift for hard rock fans at the dawn of the 70's. When most fans could only get a healthy dose of darkness from a handful of songs, Sabbath showed up sounding like they had crawled straight out of the depths of Hell.

The band kept up a winning streak throughout the 70's, even when incorporating more experimental sounds like keyboards and bells onto albums like Vol. 4. By the time that Technical Ecstasy dropped, the band were on the rocks with their original lineup. Ozzy Osbourne always had a reputation as a loose cannon, but his constant drug abuse led to an album that feels like Sabbath at half capacity. One song on here is even sung by drummer Bill Ward, with Osbourne off to sit in the corner with nothing to do.

At this point, guitarist Tony Iommi described the band's attempts at newer material a bit scattered, given that most of their fans would have critiqued the band for sounding too monotonous if they had continued to release heavier material. There were both good and bad times laying ahead for Sabbath, but there's a reason you don't hear too many tracks from this album during the band's later years. It's the sound of Ozzy halfway out the door and the world's greatest heavy metal band as a shadow of what they once were.
