10 Most Hated Hard Rock Bands Of All Time
4. Creed
From their humble beginnings in the 90's, Creed showed that they were a band that had promise. The band's first record My Own Prison had some intriguing metallic moments and their followup Human Clay turned into one of the best-selling albums of all time. Even with those accolades, that didn't stop this band from garnering several detractors over the years.
Most of the people who complain about Creed's music, it comes down to Scott Stapp, whose Christian lyrical themes tend to rub some people the wrong way. While there is nothing wrong with professing your faith in lyrics, Stapp's vocal delivery seems to be too dramatic to be taken seriously. This has led to songs like "With Arms Wide Open" being incessantly parodied for years now. It was certainly a current thing to imitate Eddie Vedder at the time, but Stapp's aping of Vedder's yarl went from an homage to falling on the wrong side of cheesy.
As a silver lining, the musicians behind Stapp are spectacular, with Mark Tremonti being one of the best shredders of his generation. Once the band folded, the rest of the band sans Stapp regrouped to form the basis of Alter Bridge with powerhouse vocalist Myles Kennedy. Despite the pitfalls coming from their vocalist, Creed's pedigree as musicians simply cannot be denied.
