10 Most Hated Hard Rock Songs (From Great Bands)
9. Heavy - Linkin Park
The early work of Linkin Park tends to be a big nostalgia bug for modern rock fans. Even if some of the lyrics to "Crawling" look a little more melodramatic in hindsight, there's no denying that the band had serious writing chops that could reach legions of frustrated teenagers. So how do you get one of the most beloved nu metal bands on the wrong side of listenable? Simple: you stick them into the pop world.
While Linkin Park were known to have their softer moments on tracks like "Shadow of the Day," they always knew how to keep your attention and incorporate the most raw rock edge into the mix. However, "Heavy" sounds like a hollow shell of the band we used to know, with a chorus that could pass as a cheap B-side from someone like the Chainsmokers. Instead of boldly reinventing themselves, this track showed the band blindly following the trends of pop music in order to get a prime stop on radio.
The sting of this song got all the more tragic once vocalist Chester Bennington was found dead a few months after its release. Though it's a shame this was Bennington's final artisti moment, that doesn't diminish the amount of great music he made that got so many of us into hard rock.
