Without a doubt one of the most notorious music rivalries of all time, The Notorious B.I.G and Tupac Shakur sparked a feud that stretched from one coast of the US to the other. Although the East and West Coast hip-hop scenes had always been in competition, things really started to get heated after 2Pac was shot and robbed in the lobby of Quad Recording Studios in 1994. Shortly after, B.I.G released “Who Shot Ya?” which Shakur interpreted as a diss track mocking the event.

This then lead to multiple diss tracks from 2Pac, who was convinced that B.I.G and his ilk were involved in the shooting. Unfortunately, the feud never progressed to a point where either part could make peace with the other, as Tupac was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting in 1996, with B.I.G being killed in the same fashion six months later. Both murders have yet to be solved, but the shootings effectively quashed the rivalry between the East and West coast hip-hop contingents, loosely brokering a peace between the two parties.
