10 Most Hilariously Bad Albums Ever Made

8. 14 Shades of Gray - Staind

As nu metal made its way into the '00s, it was clear that the old guard needed to really step up if they wanted to go the distance. For as much as Limp Bizkit may have seemed fun at the start, the idea of them lasting without some massive course correction wasn't looking too good in the wake of the garage rock revival and pop punk happening around them. Looking to switch it up, Staind stepped up to the plate and delivered...the same old sad schtick they've always been doing.

Then again, it's hard to really slag off an album like this for being all dour and depressing at the outset. If you had listened to any Staind record before this, this is what you were expecting, only made that much more insipid when you hear Aaron Lewis' lyrics. Compared to the anger and genuine pain heard on the first few records, this feels like Lewis is forcing himself to be angsty, with So Far Away sounding like the closest thing to finished that this album got.

Even some of the more thoughtful tracks like the Alice in Chains tribute Layne sound hollow, along with the intro closing track which...may have been an attempt at humor? With a self-prophesizing album title to boot, 14 Shades of Gray is as bland as nu metal comes, featuring sad boy bops that aren't even fun anymore.
