10 Most Iconic Moments At Live Rock Shows
1. When The World Sang Bohemian Rhapsody
Everybody loves Queen, but damn, go and spend some real time watching Freddie Mercury perform.
Is there any other way to remember Freddie Mercury than when he held the world in the palm of his hands, during that Wembley appearance back in 1985? Sure, the man had some iconic looks, the power mullet and spandex of the early days, and his hoover pushing, house wife look from the I Want To Break Free music video, has got to be the most emulated drag outfit ever to be conceived. But, nothing came close to this.
When Live Aid was broadcast via satellite link to over 110 countries, it was the largest television event in human history, with an estimated 40% of the worlds population viewing the performances. It's no wonder then, that when Freddie Mercury took to the stage with Queen, the image of him at his piano would become his most iconic.
Freddie Mercury had been showing signs of HIV 3 years earlier, with his symptoms becoming steadily worse. Just a year and a half after his historical performances at Wembley, he would be diagnosed with AIDS.
There isn't many more moving moments, then watching him sing the lines "Too late, my time has come - goodbye everybody, I've got to go". Although Freddie Mercury would live for another 6 years, this was his goodbye to the world.
