2. Dave Grohl Replaces Dan Peters - Nirvana

You might not think that Nirvana were around long enough to have a line-up change, but they did and it was a big one.

Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic first recruited the drummer Aaron Burckhard to play with them in 1987. Then came Dale Crover, then Dave Foster, before Chad Channing stuck around long enough to whack the skins on the band's debut album Bleach.

Sadly for double C, Kurt and Krist just weren't that into him. To be fair, he wasn't thrilled about being left out of the songwriting process either. As a result, Channing was gone and Nirvana needed yet another new drummer.

Dan Peters, who played in a band called Mudhoney, filled in on a single called Sliver that came out in 1990. Then, the group were introduced to a young drummer whose band Scream had just broken up.

Hello, Dave Grohl.

Grohl stayed behind the kit for the rest of the band's existence, playing on their two biggest albums Nevermind and In Utero, as well as their heralded MTV Unplugged release.

After Cobain's tragic death, Grohl went on to form his own band. And they were called... come on, do you really need to be told?
