10 Most Infamous People In Rock Music History
2. Allen Klein
The breakup of the Beatles truly felt like an end of an era in the world of rock and roll. As if seeing four of the biggest rock stars in the world breaking apart from each other, hearing John Lennon saying that the dream was over on his first solo album made us realize just how much was lost in the process. You can easily blame it on creative people drifting apart, but the entire demise of the Beatles took place more in the mind of Allen Klein.
Without their manager Brian Epstein to help lead the way like he did in the early ‘60s, the Beatles had tried to be independent with their label Apple, only to find themselves needing some financial assistance to get through the tough business meetings. In the process of finding people to help steer them in the right direction, both John Lennon and George Harrison sided with Allen Klein, despite being warned by the Rolling Stones not to trust him.
By dividing up the group in terms of money, Paul McCartney was the first one to break things off with the Beatles, pointing the finger at Allen for them growing apart. Klein didn’t even try to hide the fact that he wanted them at each other’s throats either, even contributing a handful of lines to Lennon’s How Do You Sleep to deliberately attack Paul. As the ‘70s wore on, both Lennon and Harrison started to realize the seedy character they were around as well, eventually cutting ties with him for good and then making music the way they wanted to. It was too late to build bridges, but who knows? If the Fabs had just one different person at the office, maybe they could have stayed the course.
