10 Most Infamous Tracks In Rock N Roll
7. Nightlife - Green Day
Green Day were truly riding high at the end of the 2000's, with both of their rock operas American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown becoming modern marvels of the pop punk genre. As the band announced their plans for an even more ambitious trilogy of albums, fans were stoked at the prospect of a rapid-fire release of fantastic Green Day material. What we got told a different story though.
Throughout each release from the trilogy, the quality of each track varied from being decent Green Day material to blatant missteps in the band's discovery. Falling towards the tail end of the second installment, "Nightlife" almost feels like the Voldemort of Green Day songs, subject to scorn and terror for anyone who dares speak its name. Unlike the other garage rock entries on the album, the tune's lethargic rhythm and hip hop lyrical contributions from Lady Cobra make the song sound like you're coming down from a heroin bender.
If you took the best songs from each record in the trilogy, you would have made a decent Green Day album. However, this song's presence on a record by one of the most successful rock bands of the modern age is one of the biggest fumbles in modern rock history.
