10 Most Influential Rock Bands

1. The Beatles

At the dawn of the 60's, there were a bunch of rock heroes without much cohesion. Every band seemed to be playing second fiddle to the frontman like Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, or Jerry Lee Lewis. When four scruffy lads from Liverpool hit it big though, the rock band as we know it was born.

The Beatles arrived like a bolt of lightning in the music industry, electrifying their audiences while incorporating creative left turns in each of their songs. As the band went on, they turned the idea of a rock band into that of an intellectual collective. Rock didn't have to necessarily be about a performance, but about four creative minds working together to create masterful compositions.

From John Lennon's understated genius to Paul McCartney's penchant for catchy hooks, the band were able to incorporate elements of any genre that suited them at the time. The Beatles were a perfect example of a band who always played to each other's strengths and helped broaden the landscape for rock music. When musicians try to construct any kind of rock song nowadays, they will always be living in the shadow of what the Beatles had perfected during their career.
