10 Most Legendary Horrible Gigs In Rock Music History

3. Woodstock 1999

The entire ethos behind Woodstock in 1969 was all about music fans coming together for peace, love, and celebration. No matter how much difference may have been between every audience member that set foot on those grounds in New York, it practically felt like a utopia whenever the music started playing, bringing everyone together and keeping the good vibes flowing. That was 30 years ago when 1999 rolled around, and the vibe of peace and love had been traded in for one of the most disastrous gigs in rock history.

With nu metal being the popular trend at the time, some of the biggest spots at the festival were reserved for people like Korn and Limp Bizkit. After Korn tore through their set on the first night, Fred Durst seemed to screw up everything the minute that Limp Bizkit took to the stage, talking about using their song Break Stuff as an excuse for the crowd to let out all their negative energy. Completely misunderstanding the assignment, the crowd started to divulge into chaos, ripping the scaffolding off of the stage, starting bonfires and even assaulting people in the crowd.

That all seemed to go over Fred's head though, not realizing what was going on and eventually surfing on one of the pieces of plywood and performing in the middle of the crowd. By the time the band got offstage, the authorities had to be brought in and bring the concert to a close, with Fred being blamed for inciting a riot in the crowd. It may have been a fun idea at the start, but part of the innocence of rock and roll died on that stage in 1999.
