Billy Idol's wild success in the '80s, coupled with his slightly polished take on pop punk, often landed him the label of a 'plastic punk'. To punk purists, his brand of music was seen as a commercial bastardisation of the genre.

But this guy was anything but a poser. In 1976 he was part of the Bromley Contingent: a group of Sex Pistols devotees who followed the group on tour around the UK. He then fronted the early, and highly influential, punk group Generation X, until 1981 when he made the move to New York. The '80s saw Idol living up to his namesake, becoming a staple of the MTV rock era.

Judging by all the sweaty-faced-sniffing and hazy-eyed-gazes, in his music videos, this guy loved the party... But one of his most famous exploits, resulted in over $140,000 in damages to the penthouse suite of a Bangkok hotel. After a month long bender - involving a cocktail of pharmacy-bought drugs - Idol was supposably blow darted by Thai police and carried out on a stretcher before he'd give up the room.

Before engrossing myself in the written word, I spent several years in the TV and film industry. During this time I became proficient at picking things up, moving things and putting things down again.
