10 Most Outrageous Lead Singers In Punk Rock Music
8. Fat Mike
You don't get much more punk than NOFX. Formed in 1983 these guys were part of the indie scene surviving on the underground, through sheer love of the music rather than commercial success.
When pop punk broke in the early '90s, groups like The Offspring and Green Day were among the first of many to get snapped up by a major label. When NOFX's fifth record, Punk in Drublic (1994) blew up, Fat Mike stuck to his DIY punk ethos, and turned down any offers to sign to a major label. To this day the group remain one of the most successful indie artists of all time.
Part of the band's allure is not just their reluctance to sellout, but the charisma of their controversial frontman Fat Mike. A practicer of BDSM and an open crossdresser, Mike has never been one to shy away from saying what's on his mind.
He's riled up both the conservative right and the progressive left. In 2004 he organised the "Rock Against Bush" campaign, in protest against George W. Bush's policy in the Middle East. And, in 2021 the group released the track F**k Euphemism - a song addressing the current conversation around gender and sexuality, in the least subtle way possible.
