10 Most Outrageous Lead Singers In Punk Rock Music
5. Iggy Pop
They don't call Iggy Pop the "Godfather of Punk" for no reason. Along with his group, The Stooges, he all but created the genre. His band's aggressively fast-paced, wall of sound, was a far cry from the usual hard rock of the late '60s and early '70s.
The Stooges championed raw power over raw talent, delivering high octane and gritty guitar based music, and wild showmanship. Although their first three records were commercially unsuccessful, their music made a marked impression on the groups who would give punk its name in the mid-to late '70s.
But it was the crazed antics of Iggy Pop that really put these guys on the map. Fulled by amphetamine (and whatever else he could get his hands on) Pop would hurl himself around the stage with no regard for his personal safety. Mick Jagger was wooing audiences with his snake-hipped jives, while Pop was shocking them with onstage, self-mutilation and alarming theatrics.
The audience offered up the tears, while Pop showered them in blood and sweat.
