10 Most Overrated Metal Bands Of All Time

Art of... overexposure.

Metal has always been known as a genre that stays in the underground.

Unless you're a band like Metallica who manages to carve their name out as one of the greatest acts in the world, chances are your metal outfit isn't going to get played on the radio all that often these days. Back in the glory days of the genre though, you could easily go in the exact opposite direction as well.

Along with being some of the biggest names in rock and roll, there are many metal bands that certainly don't warrant being as remembered as they were (or still are) back in their day. Though they may have had some good songs here and there, it normally comes down to them being overexposed, or their songs not being nearly as hard hitting as people think they actually are.

Hell, in the worst case scenario, these are the bands that are so basic that they manage to give potential fans the wrong impression of what metal is all about in the first place. And no matter how hard you try, music that turns people away from the genre as a whole is never a good sign.

I don't necessarily think these guys are bad... they just might not be our first choice of bands to go to bat for.

10. Hollywood Undead

It's time that we all realize that nu metal stayed around far too long at the party. Since most of the sounds of garage rock and pop punk were looking to take its place on the throne, some of the most underwhelming angry white boy music started to come out in the mid '00s, from acts like Adema trying to make hits to some of the most candified versions of the genre to date. And when you're talking about the friendlier side of nu metal, it doesn't get any more repugnant than with Hollywood Undead.

Originally looking like it was Hot Topic's answer to Slipknot, most of the band's catalog hasn't real withstood the test of time in the slightest, going for more of the alpha male bravado than saying anything meaningful. Hell, even when they were trying to say something meaningful, songs like Bullet is a lot more cringy when you look back on it today.

If anything, this was one of the few bands that made people actively flee from the genre, knowing that the JNCO jean stripe of rock music jumped the shark more than a few times.

Any band can just not make very good music, but when you have music that's so bad that it's turning people away from the genre, you're going to need to seriously go back to the drawing board.
