10 Most Overrated Rock Albums Of The 2000s

5. Yours Truly, Angry Mob - Kaiser Chiefs (2007)

When the Kaiser Chiefs hit the scene with Employment (2005) it was as if the world became afflicted by a musical mass Stockholm syndrome. Oh My God was chanted everywhere, and you couldn't resist the jaunty melodies of Everyday I Love You Less And Less, and the infectiously repeatable lyrics to, I Predict A Riot. The Nation was hooked. Ricky Wilson's lyrics were unescapable.

The band's Britpop inspired take on indie music had all the energy and musical texture required to make them appear like the saving grace of rock. The hype only continued with the release of Yours Truly, Angry Mob, in 2007. The band led the charge with Ruby, a song that has since become scorched into the psyche of every millennial alive. It was another radio sensation, with a recognisable riff, gliding chords, lyrics about love; and a chorus that could be delivered with all the sloppy confidence of a football chant.

The album was seen as a step forward for a band who had managed to rise above the pressure of instant success. It was praised as an album that took all the boisterous and cheeky charm of their debut, and trimmed off the immature sentiments. But listening to the group's first two albums back to back, you realise they lost something. The Britpop bravado was gone, and the songs fell flat without it.

Ruby might still be lurking in one of your nostalgia playlists, but it's unlikely any other tracks from this album are.
