10 Most Overrated Rock Albums Of The 2000s

6. The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance (2006)

Featuring this record will most likely anger people. It holds a special place in many hearts, particularly for those who were teenagers when it game out. So we'll start by listing its virtues - because it certainly has some.

The themes and lyrics are thoroughly thought-out. Gerard Way managed to transpose his personal reflections on death, into lyrics that followed the story of a terminally ill patient, passing on to the other side. His aptitude for tackling sinister subject matters with sincerity and a hint of humour, must surely be praised. The album is laced with hints of musical brilliance: Way's vocal delivery on the lead single, were impassioned but not domineering; the influences of Queen nip at the edge of the tracks, but never become too apparent; and there's a theatrical resonance at times.

But sadly this didn't carry through for more than a handful of tracks. For the most part, this album is cacophony of sound - so saturated with screaming vocals and whaling guitars - that it's nigh impossible to penetrate the mix, and get into the substance of the songs. It remains an album of great concepts with moments of glory, but is weighed down by its over-ambitious daring.
