10 Most Un-Metal Songs By Major Metal Artists
6. I'm the Man - Anthrax
Every metal fan over the age of 30 has more often than not gone through their fair share of nu metal. No matter how embarrassing it may look nowadays, there was no way to escape the massive amount of rap rock acts coming to the forefront at the turn of the century, whether it was the rallying cry of Rage Against the Machine or the insecure manchildren in Limp Bizkit. However, that melding of genres actually happened a few years earlier.
Long before they became the thrash metal legends everyone knows, Anthrax were just a bunch of kids who loved hip hop just as much as they loved their metal. While most of albums like Among the Living and Spreading the Disease are pure thrash metal, they certainly threw us a curveball with I'm the Man, which is rap rock to the point of parody. From the first note, you can tell these guys aren't taking this all too seriously, with none of them being the most competent of rappers and lines that resort to dad puns pretty quickly.
On the other hand, this turned out to be somewhat of a litmus test for rap rock, as they teamed up with Public Enemy shortly afterward for their legendary re-recording of Bring the Noise. For as much as these guys wanted to be the Beastie Boys at this stage, this is still a nice bit of fun away from the machine gun riffing.
