10 Most Underrated AC/DC Songs
2. The Jack - High Voltage
All of AC/DC's material seems indebted to the old school rock and roll that came before. Even though it might be played with a bit more attitude, you can still hear the sounds of artists like Elvis and Chuck Berry seeping in every so often. On their first record though, the Jack brought out a traditional trope that goes back further than rock itself: the blues.
Compared to the other material in the band's playbook, this track is practically lethargic in its tempo, as everything feels like the musicians have been given some sort of sedative. However, this is where you stop paying attention to the riffs and focus in on the groove, as the Young brothers put all of the swagger they can muster into keeping that traditional bluesy swing. This is also one of the few times where you get to hear Bon full uninhibited, as he takes on the role of the Southern blues singer with ease, comparing his lover's tricks to a game of poker.
Whereas AC/DC have since graduated to the arena scene over the years, this is a flashback to a time when these guys didn't have a dime to their name, playing music so naturally that it practically drips off of the club walls. Those clubs might be a bit bigger these days, but this is still one hell of a way to start out.
