10 Most Underrated Aerosmith Songs

5. The Movie - Permanent Vacation

Permanent Vacation is the one album that marks Aerosmith's first return to form. After years of dysfunctional band infighting and Steven Tyler snorting what he estimated was "half of Peru" in drugs, the boys were officially back with an album that put them more in line with their rock roots. Aside from the more radio friendly songs done with the help of outside songwriters, they saved a bit of a moody closer for the ending.

Once you get a load of the group's take on the Beatles with I'm Down, The Movie certainly lives up to its title as the most cinematic piece that they have ever written. With no Tyler to speak of, this is a full-on instrumental track for the guys to go out on, as Perry and Whitford trade some of the most atmospheric guitar lines they have ever pulled off. Given how much inner turmoil it took to get to this place, this tune feels like the amalgamation of all the rough years that these guys had in the hard rock doledrums.

It also does a great job at tying the album together, as the final fade out feels like the curtain falling on this hair metal masterpiece. Even though plenty of rock fans expected Aerosmith to be down for the count, The Movie is a victory lap after seeing the rock and roll phoenix rise from its ashes.
