10 Most Underrated Aerosmith Songs
6. One Way Street - Aerosmith
Most seasoned rock fans don't really realize how much of a flogging the first Aerosmith album took when it was first released. Rather than the arrival of the next gigantic American rock band, there was barely anyone who wanted to touch this record, likening it to a second rate version of the Rolling Stones' brand of rock and roll. Even though the Toxic Twins were taking a few cues from Jagger and Richards, there were a few highlights that were all their own.
Whereas the proto power ballad Dream On ended up sinking like a stone when it was first released, One Way Street is one of the meatiest cuts on the record, where everyone lays back on one of the grooviest pieces of music in their career. I'll concede that the Stones worship on this cut is a bit too thick than some rock fans would prefer, but not even the Stones would have had the guts to actually put a guitar duel in the middle of their song.
Each taking their own turn, the interplay between Brad Whitford and Joe Perry is immediately recognizable, with Perry's more rudimentary guitar licks being interspersed with the delicate weaving of notes coming from Whitford's amplifier. Despite Aerosmith not really exploding on their first record, One Way Street at least showed that they had the actual chops to back up their tunes.
