10 Most Underrated Albums From Legendary Hard Rock Bands
2. Alice In Chains - Alice In Chains
As much as people like to call Kurt Cobain's death the end of grunge, nothing really happens that quickly. Even though Kurt's death may have cast a shroud on any new music coming down the pipeline, the musical veterans of the genre still found a way to work through their own problems and come out with killer material of their own. In the case of Alice in Chains though, that music didn't come without a fight.
After the Jar of Flies EP climbed up the charts, it was becoming clear that Layne Staley was starting to fade into his own addiction to heroin. Looking to make the best of their situation, Alice decided to go back into the studio for another record, with Jerry Cantrell taking the reigns for most of the songs. While Layne still is present on the album, his frail voice is much more suited to a support role for Jerry, along with tracks that were some of their most metallic in years like Grind and Head Creeps.
That wasn't enough to save the band though, as Alice quickly went on hiatus after the touring for the album wrapped up, with Layne being found in the spring of 2002 dead of a heroin overdose. Even though the classic Alice might have died along with Layne, it's nice that they at least finished off a career on their terms with this album.
