10 Most Underrated Albums In Rock Music History
2. There Is Nothing Left To Lose - Foo Fighters
When Foo Fighters first hit it big back in the mid '90s, the odds were already stacked against them. Compared to the bands that normally get to work out their sound before they actually get famous, Dave Grohl's latest outfit was still just a baby band when everyone started to sing along to songs like Monkey Wrench and Everlong on the radio. By the time the touring cycle was over though, they had lost a drummer and two guitar players and had their career in question.
Instead of trying to make another big budget masterpiece, Grohl figured it was time to get a little more organic, taking Nate Mendel and Taylor Hawkins out to his home in Virginia and making a record in his basement with There is Nothing Left to Lose. As such, most of the record feels a lot more homemade, with songs like Next Year and Learn to Fly having a breezier sound to them than the balls to the wall rock and roll of the last few albums.
The Foos hadn't decided to go soft on us though, since songs like Stacked Actors and Breakout serve as a great way to kick down the door and leave us wanting more from them right out of the gate. Although it might not be the biggest charting album of their career, this is the kind of laid back Foos record that you save for when you want to chill out.
