10 Most Underrated Albums In Rock Music History

1. McCartney II - Paul McCartney

At the end of the '70s, Paul McCartney found himself right back where he started at the end of the '60s. Since he was able to move on from the Beatles' legacy by forming Wings with his wife Linda, the past few years saw him getting more and more pop flavored until he and Denny Laine decided to fold the project. In between the last iteration of Wings though, Macca had a weird detour up his sleeve with his second solo album.

Granted, we were never technically supposed to hear this. Looking to just make a handful of songs to amuse himself at the time, McCartney II is the result of Paul getting a tape recorder at home and doing whatever he wanted, which often devolved into some pretty strange tangents. Like going from the song Coming Up into Temporary Secretary will have you genuinely thinking that you're hearing two separate projects.

It's those weird moments that would become pivotal later down the line, with songs like On the Way having the same kind of murky production and feel that you would hear out of an old school Gorillaz track and the electronic sounds paving the way for the psychedelic bands of today like Tame Impala. Though some critics were baffled at the time of this record's release, it was only because the former Beatle was already miles ahead of his time.
