Despite releasing four ridiculously catchy albums of post-punk goodness, this lot from Leicestershire never held on to a large scale audience. Not only did they receive a Mercury Music Award nomination for their excellent debut Voices Of Animals and Men, but they had a significant presence on TV. What is particularly mystifying is that the trio had to set up a Kickstarter campaign just to fund their latest release Sick Octave, which was one of the best albums of 2013. The album felt like a band that were making a statement stylistically and musically without sacrificing the quirky playfulness of their earlier material. The abundance of influences on display was something that was quite unique to the indie rock genre, ranging anywhere from avant-garde maverick Captain Beefheart to krautrock eccentrics Can. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH1obz8RnvI A truly ambitious band who have been held back by modern day issues in the music industry but just let that try and stop them because on Sick Octave, they sound revitalised.
