10 Most Underrated Britpop Albums

3. Lush – Lovelife

Not only were Lush one of best groups to sprout out of the Britpop era, but they were also one of the first to be put under the shoegaze label. But on their fourth and final LP Lovelife, their shoegaze elements were muted to make way for a more relevant Britpop sound.

There’s definitely comparisons to be made with fellow Britpop outfit Elastica, but Lush are also their own unique beast. The 1996 release features some of the best rhythms and melodies to come out of the movement, with tracks such as punky opener “Ladykillers,” breezy beauty “500,” and the stellar Jarvis Cocker duet “Ciao!” showcasing their impressive songwriting knack.

Sadly, the group disbanded following the album’s release after drummer Chris Acland tragically hung himself. However, his and the rest of the band’s works are safely cemented as some of the best music to come out of the movement.
