10 Most Underrated Britpop Albums
4. Dodgy – Homegrown
There’s nothing dodgy about this great 1994 Britpop effort by light-hearted trio Dodgy. They delve more into the poppier side of the movement, and come up trumps each and every time on their second record Homegrown.
If you can get past the fact that the album’s biggest hit “Staying Out for the Summer” borrows very heavily from Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper,” you’ll find much to like on this LP. From slow ballads to arena rockers – Homegrown finds a perfect balance between rock and pop.
The band served as a nice contrast to the lad rock elements of Britpop, choosing instead to embrace the more classic traits of the multi-faceted subculture. If Britpop is the complete antithesis of the darker grunge movement in the U.S., then Dodgy are practically the poster boys of it with their bright, perky compositions.
