10 Most Underrated Classic Rock Albums
6. The Long Run - Eagles
At the end of the 70's, the Eagles had gone to some of the highest peaks any rock band could have achieved. After having a handful of hits from each one of their respective albums, the band hit upon their masterpiece with Hotel California, with every track being an all-time classic. It's the common belief that The Long Run is where the band starts to run out of gas, but don't let that trick you into thinking it's a bad album.
Granted, the band's use of cocaine in the studio did result in some of half-baked attempts at former glory, but what is on display here is fairly decent, with the title track featuring an amazing Don Henley vocal and some of the best dual guitar harmonies the band have ever pulled off. There are even a few tracks that flirt with other genres, from the hard rock of "Teenage Jail" to the almost ethereal closer "The Sad Cafe."
Even if the band lost siren bassist Randy Meisner, Timothy B. Schmidt proves to be the right guy for the job with his dazzling ballad "I Can't Tell You Why." The band's demise was just around the corner, but for a final sonic statement, this record still has that Eagles magic intact.
