10 Most Underrated Drummers In Rock
7. Josh Freese - Various
Some of the brightest stars in the drum world tend to go unnoticed. Despite having the attention of being in a big rock band, the idea of hanging back and settling into whatever groove an artist throws at you is also one of the biggest strengths in any drummer's arsenal. In the modern world of session drummers though, Josh Freese might have one of the most eclectic rap sheets in the business.
Even though his name might not appear in every single album he performs on, chances are you've heard this man's drumming on songs by your favorite artists more than a few times. While he is primarily known now as the drummer for A Perfect Circle, Freese has had his hand in other heavy acts like Nine Inch Nails and My Chemical Romance over the years. On the opposite side of things, Freese has also been a go-to session drummer for bands like Weezer and Slash on their respective projects, as well as lending his skills to acts like Bruce Springsteen and Social Distortion over the years.
There's probably a handful of people who don't even know this man's name, and yet have praised his drumming countless times over the years. While there's a certain lane for drummers who decide to remain faceless, you might want to take a second look at the liner notes of your favorite records to see if Josh Freese turns up at all.
