10 Most Underrated Green Day Songs

8. Pulling Teeth - Dookie

At this point, Dookie has pretty much been solidified as one of the classics of the '90s. Though its critical significance hasn't reached the heights of something like Nirvana's Nevermind or Radiohead's Ok Computer, the amount of kids who bought this record went on to define what rock and roll would look like in the next decade. While the singles may have been some of their best work, there was also a funny side to Green Day that always flared up.

As we start to come down after Welcome to Paradise, Pulling Teeth is a fun romp through the everyday pleasures of...domestic problems. Inspired by an episode where Mike Dirnt's wife accidentally broke his arms during a pillow fight, Billie Joe takes the more tragic parts of the song and turns them into a comedic act, almost as if you're seeing it through the lens of a cartoon.

Even the melody isn't completely sold on the typical pop punk formula, with Billie Joe writing a chord progression that would fit much better over a soul crooner like the Temptations or Marvin Gaye back in the early days of Motown. Granted, there's no way any of those soul giants would get caught singing lyrics like this. You don't really see this kind of fun-filled tune come out of Green Day too often anymore, but it's not like songs like these old gems are necessarily going anywhere.
