10 Most Underrated Green Day Songs
2. Worry Rock - Nimrod
After the pure anger unleashed on their album Insomniac, Green Day really seemed burnt out on the traditional pop punk formula. While juggling the concept of selling out and holding on to their working class roots, the guys seemed to not have a desire to revisit the same 3-chord style punk song anymore. As such, Nimrod came out and showed Green Day turning the entire concept of pop punk inside out.
Even though people single out Good Riddance when talking about this record, there's a ton of great left turns that will keep you guessing across the track listing. As opposed to your standard punk affair, some of the best moments of this record are where the band tries on other classic rock genres on for size, with Worry Rock probably being the tightest tune of the bunch.
Featuring one of the sunniest melodies Billie would ever write in the '90s, the song almost feels like a by-gone tune from someone like Buddy Holly, all while we're being told of a relationship on the rocks.
At a time where guitar solos were also few and far between, the little flourishes Billie puts through on the bridge is the epitome of taste, as it doesn't overstay its welcome and leaves you aching for more. Sure, there's really nothing new being brought to the table here, but there are very few Green Day songs that do as many things right as this song does.
