10 Most Underrated Green Day Songs

3. Misery - Warning

In the grand scheme of Green Day's catalog, Warning might take the cake for the weirdest album they've ever made.

After years of doing the same type of pop punk formula across their records, this sonic shift into the world of classic rock and folk territory did not sit well with fans. While Green Day made the pop punk cardinal sin of growing up, they had not lost their touch once they started to experiment.

Upon first listen, almost no one would have guessed that this song was by the same guys who brought you Longview, complete with a cheesy organ sound, an oompah rhythm, and a seedy tale of love and murder spewing from Billie Joe's lyrics.

This entire thing sounds like it could have come off of a Gypsy punk joint, and somehow it fits right at home in the middle of this record. Even though this song is 50 shades of bonkers when it comes to Green Day, it actually ended up helping them out in the long run.

As time has gone on, the production has held up surprisingly well, as does the story of the song, almost like Billie Joe found a comfortable medium between Bob Dylan and Johnny Ramone. Later down the line we would see songs like Viva La Gloria? take a similar approach, with even more fantastic results than this track. This might not be the Green Day you're looking for, but it might just be the Green Day you need.
