10 Most Underrated Grunge Bands Of All Time

6. Send No Flowers

While grunge made huge waves in the UK, few British bands made it big on the scene. One such band who didn’t make it big were Send No Flowers, who produced the sum total of one warmly received but poorly selling record before quietly disbanding.

What an album it was, though. 1996’s Juice is the sound of a band that realises it might have just one chance at this, and accordingly Send No Flowers throw absolutely everything they’ve got against the wall to see what sticks. Opener “Effervescent Smile” starts like they mean to go on, with real weight, and the chunky guitars work through a lengthy number until the anguished, howling conclusion.

“Bitter Taste” offers a familiar but undeniably groovy riff, while the 8 minute long “Animal Feeder” moves from balladeering to a drawn out, stoney section and a colossal coda with everything going at once.

Their cues seem to come from Faith No More rather than Pixies; this is a gritty, expansive, often indulgent album. For a young, British group outside of the scene, especially, it’s an impressive, hugely effective effort.
