10 Most Underrated Grunge Bands Of All Time

3. Love Battery

One of the Seattle acts most directly influenced by psychedelia, Love Battery embraced a less abrasive, spacier sound than many of their contemporaries. Their debut EP Between The Eyes is particularly sugar spun in parts, like the terrific “Orange”, though their songs pack a harder edge, too.

Full length debut Dayglo maintains the band’s ear for the anthemic, but with an increase in grit, too. Opener “Out Of Focus” is, appropriately enough, awash with fuzz, walls of guitars and feedback stretching across each other. “See Your Mind” encapsulates the lighter side of grunge at its best, with a brilliant pop melody buried in the rubble of guitar and lo-fi production.

1993’s Far Gone is damaged by a poor mix, but Love Battery’s ear for a good melody and an even better structure remains intact. Nevertheless, the album’s failure led to the band moving from Sub Pop to smaller labels, from which they’d never return. Managed differently, they could have been a huge deal.
