10 Most Underrated Heavy Metal Guitarists

9. Matt Heafy - Trivium

Fans of modern metal will undoubtedly know Matt Heafy as the lead singer and frontman of Trivium.

Since their first album came out back in 2003, the band have remained one of the biggest names in the current crop of metal talent and Heafy's powerful vocals and commanding presence are a large reason for that.

As their popularity grew, Trivium began dipping their toes into the waters of progressive metal. For those who don't know, prog metal is like regular metal only way, way more complex.

In order to pull off prog, a band needs a guitarist who is willing to throw themselves into some very challenging music. Luckily for Trivium, they have two.

Not only is lead guitarist Corey Beaulieu utterly phenomenal, but Heafy more than pulls his weight on the six string.

Despite being in the less glamorous role of rhythm guitarist, Heafy never fails to stand out and pulls off some of the band's more intricate melodies with confidence and flourish.

It's easy to get distracted by how good a singer Heafy is, but don't sleep on his guitar work.

Not that it's easy to sleep when Trivium are doing their thing.
