10 Most Underrated Heavy Metal Guitarists

3. Eric Peterson - Testament

Don't be fooled by the fact that he has the name of a property lawyer - Eric Peterson is 100% rock 'n' roll.

Peterson was one of the founding members of Testament, back when they used to be called Legacy. He's still with the band to this day, making him the only original member who has stayed with the group for its entire existence.

He's been the band's rhythm guitarist for that whole time and has contributed a huge amount to their songwriting. For the longest time, he seemed to play second fiddle to the band's lead guitarist Alex Skolnick, but Eric P is second fiddle to no man.

Through his technically spot-on playing and immaculate craftsmanship, Peterson has been the glue that's held Testament together. Without his faultless performances, the band may have ceased to exist a long time ago.

It speaks volumes that, after years of only playing rhythm, Peterson now shares a lot of the lead guitar duties with Skolnick. His talent was just too raw to be ignored and he's now taking his rightful place in the spotlight.

Even if his name is boring enough to put someone to sleep.
