10 Most Underrated Heavy Metal Guitarists

2. Jerry Cantrell - Alice In Chains

Whilst he was more famous as a frontman, Kurt Cobain's guitar work has also been praised many times over the years.

The same goes for Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and Pearl Jam's main shredder Mike McCready.

But what about the other member of grunge's big four? What about the guitarist for Alice in Chains?

Well, that would be Jerry Cantrell, and he rules.

Just think of all the great Alice in Chain riffs and hooks from the 90s.

Them Bones; Would?; Rooster; Man in the Box; Grind; all of these timeless classics were brought to life by the same man and that man is nowhere near as famous as he should be.

Even when Cantrell took over the band's lead vocal duties in the wake of Layne Staley's death, he continued to go unnoticed. All the while, he was still creating amazing guitar parts like on Your Decision and Hollow.

Though he's not a nobody by any stretch of the imagination, Jerry Cantrell is long overdue the praise and attention he should receive for steering such a huge band through some really dark times.

Also, look how cool his hair is!
