10 Most Underrated Indie Rock Albums Of 2020s (So Far)
9. The Strokes - The New Abnormal
In The Strokes you have a troupe that had long since dropped out of their supposed "prime" of the mid-noughties and had struggled to get critics back onside with their attempts to keep themselves fresh and relevant.
But in 2020's The New Abnormal, Julian Casablancas and the gang appear to have rediscovered their penchant for the unexpectedly captivating. Here they passionately infuse their 6th studio album with the fast-paced funk found in The Adults Are Talking before lighting up your speakers with their latest anthem fit for a stadium in the form of the love sick battle cry Bad Decisions.
The band also find time to dip into the '80s pop well for inspiration on occasion too, forging an amalgamation of varied tunes that grow catchier by the re-listen.
And with those more radio-friendly hits also comes a touch of the sombre and soul-touching in the likes of Not The Same Anymore, a weighty and more mature ballad with the piercing lyrics of "And now the door slams shut/The child prisoner grows up/To seek his enemies' throat cut" still ringing in your ears.
If you missed this return to form... then you're missing out.
