10 Most Underrated Kanye West Songs

3. Big Brother

A love letter to his idol and mentor (Jay- Z), this song is a rare moment we see a devoid-of-ego Kanye. He opens the song by saying "Stadium Status", perfectly fitting when both this track and Graduation are so anthemic in style.

Kanye praises Jay-Z for his wisdom and advice throughout his career on the song, as well as how close their relationship was at that point. Listening to this track now is somewhat bittersweet when you consider the tenuous nature of their relationship presently.

The instrumental is synth heavy with a steady percussion pattern, and it really feels that this song should be played at maximum volume. Kanye is simply expressing his love and admiration for his brotherly figure. It's a vulnerability, honesty and surprisingly humility that was severely lacking in mid 2000s hip hop. It's also unique for the fact that it has a male rapper openly expressing his love for another male rapper, rare at the time considering the extreme macho nature that dominated the genre.

Kanye details almost their entire relationship up to that point, from the days of The Blueprint all the way up until the release of Graduation.

It's quite ironic that one of the most openly egotistical celebrities of our time happens to create one of the most humbling and touching odes to a loved one in hip-hop history.
