10 Most Underrated Kanye West Songs
4. Guilt Trip
Yeezus is usually described as experimental, abrasive and distorted. All elements of this is on show on Guilt Trip, a genre bending but undeniably beautiful song. It combines house, hip hop, glitch, electronic and dancehall in just over 4 minutes.
Like a lot of Yeezus, Guilt Trip deals with the fall out of particularly unhealthy relationships. Its reference heavy as Kanye talks about everything from Shabba Ranks to Star Wars.
Kid Cudi provides the interlude on the track, and its a moment of particular desperation. "If you love me, why'd you let me go?" he asks. He's articulating that sinking feeling one gets when you're aware a relationship you've invested into is on the cusp of completely collapsing.
It's a song that's all over the place in the very best possible way, fitting when you consider how scatterbrained some of the emotions on display are.
Guilt Trip really does deserve more love.
