Arnold Schwarzenegger's ill-advised move into Satanic panic horror territory wasn't exactly a game-changer back in '99. From the poorly handled plot to Arnie's ever so curious take on acting, it was an action vehicle that never quite got out of first gear.
If there's one thing that can be said in this film's favour, it's that it had a surprisingly kick-ass soundtrack. Look no further than 'Crushed', a track that, despite the eyebrow-raising absence of Wes Borland, showcases much of the band's finer qualities.
Essentially a duet of sorts between Fred Durst and DJ Lethal, this masterfully-produced hip hop-styled tune is criminally overlooked these days. Durst's typically crass, cranky lyrics are on full display here, balanced perfectly against Lethal's sublime turntable talents.
There's no obvious explanation for how this song relates to the apocalyptic flick they made it for. All one can really say is it captures a level of intensity and multi-layered sound that the movie fails to reach on the cinematic front.
The lack of guitars may prove jarring for Bizkit fans more accustomed to their standard noise. However, in the absence of a more rock-oriented sound, we get a fuller appreciation of DJ Lethal's often underrated contribution to the group's distinctive style.
