10 Most Underrated Members Of Legendary Rock Bands

9. Mick Thomson - Slipknot

Is it really fair to call some of the members of Slipknot underrated? From the fact that Craig Jones never talks in interviews to the identity of Tortilla Man still being a bit of a mystery today, it's clear that some of these guys don't have their sights on being in the public eye all the time. If there's one man who should be known outside of Slipknot circles, it's the 6 foot monster in the Jason Voorhees mask.

As much as Corey Taylor or even Sid Wilson have their side projects outside of Slipknot, Mick Thomson has always been the main man steering the ship as far as guitar playing is concerned. Even when you talk about the assault of riffs going on though, people normally gravitate to Jim Root, when Mick is really doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

You have to remember that before Jim even found his way into the band, Mick was the original guitarist for the group, with him being behind some of the more menacing riffs like Eyeless and Surfacing from the self titled record. After a while, you can also definitely tell them apart as you listen further into their catalog, with Mick being much more about insane runs than the more melodic side of Jim's lines. Both guitarists have more than earned their stripes as guitarists, but Mick came from the school of shred and is not about to apologize for it.
