10 Most Underrated Members Of Legendary Rock Bands

8. Mike Dirnt - Green Day

It's pretty hard to find yourself in a three piece band and somehow not find enough screentime for yourself. Since there's not that many people to worry about, it's easy to spread the attention to pretty much anyone in the band and find something awesome. In the case of Green Day though, Mike Dirnt may be the one member that was always pulling a little more weight than you probably thought.

As for the songs on the band's breakthrough records like Dookie, it's easy to just chalk them up to Billie Joe Armstrong's insane knack for melody. When you listen to what Mike is doing on the low end though, he's the reason why the songs stay as interesting as they do. Looking at his role from the perspective of a guitar player, a lot of the lines that Mike played in the early days have a definite swagger to them, almost sounding a bit more danceable than the other pop punk bands at the time.

Granted, it's not like the band didn't know when to use him correctly either, since his bass work drives a song like Longview and even gets a mini solo in the breakdown of Stuck With Me. Though Mike's flashy playing has taken a bit of a back seat in the past few years, playing along to the classics is like upgrading to expert mode in terms of learning your instrument.
