10 Most Underrated My Chemical Romance Songs
8. Give Em Hell Kid - Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge
For years, My Chem have always had to defend themselves around people trying to brand them as exclusively emo rock. Though it's pretty undeniable that they took some cues from the genre, Gerard Way has always maintained that the band took influence from so many more genres that just the whiny kids set with guitars. Just look at the second track on Three Cheers and they basically morphed into a crusty punk band.
Punk had never been that far away from My Chemical Romance's sound in the first place, and Give Em Hell Kid feels like a shot of adrenaline from the minute it starts. Set at a breakneck tempo, this is the first moment on the record where Frank Iero's chops on rhythm guitar really shine through, as he plays the choruses loosely without ever sounding like he's going on autopilot.
That's not to say that Ray Toro doesn't have his shining moments on this track either, by somehow sprinkling in little bits and pieces of guitar leads on the track. It's almost as if you have both sides of the band wrestling with each other on this track and coming out with a kickass song at the end of the day. Out of all the emo tinged sides of the band, this is the song you show to the punks to get them into the genre.
