10 Most Underrated My Chemical Romance Songs
4. The Sharpest Lives - The Black Parade
The beginning of the Black Parade is by no means a happy story. Since the protagonist is told they have up to 2 weeks to live, it'd make sense that the rest of the songs weren't all sunshine and roses from the get go. Once you recover from the anger and the sadness though, you're just going to want to be numb and have something take the pain away.
Enter: The Sharpest Lives. Opening with a guitar line that sounds like a machine, the entire song feels almost clinically crafted, as Gerard just talks about wanting to be left alone. You can practically see the hospital bed while you're listening, as the Patient desperately waits for the next shot of morphine to kick in so he won't feel any more of his pain. Then again, who says this all has to be about the terminal cancer running through his body?
Looking to have a shot to remember, this is probably the clearest look at alcoholism in the story, where we can easily see our hero looking for some shot of something just to numb his nerves. Out of all the songs on the Black Parade, this is the one track where you feel like you're wallowing in your fate. You've been sinning all your life so far, so what's the use in stopping now?
