10 Most Underrated Nu Metal Albums
1. Minus.Driver - Structure of Simplicity
While they never really went anywhere, the frequently renamed Minus.Driver displayed mountainous potential with their first and last LP.
The group initially spent ample time on the often gruelling Atlanta club scene after forming in high school. Their first taste of any real success came when they landed a gig on 'Farmclub.com', a briefly run music series in the early noughties. They performed alongside another fledgling group by the name of Incubus (wonder whatever happened to them). The increased notoriety lead to the release of 'Structure of Simplicity', a complex, thoughtful blend of nu metal angst with post-hardcore sensibilities.
Tracks like 'Everything' and 'Stranded' proved that Minus.Driver had the technical knowhow to craft more melodic beats than what nu metal was accustomed to. When crossed with the headbanging rage of more classically nu anthems like 'Half-Mile', it becomes clear just how versatile these underground cult favourites could be.
Lyrically, there were hints of a far more poetic, thoughtful mind than what was typical among nu metal outfits. Look no further than the intricate work on display in 'Anti-Vanity', a heady, atmospheric track encircling a variety of confronting themes.
Despite being briefly signed to Universal, Minor.Drive ultimately didn't put out much more bar an EP after this. The group disbanded before they ever hit their peak, leaving this fascinating artefact behind.
