10 Most Underrated Pearl Jam Songs

9. Never Destination - Gigaton

You can't blame Pearl Jam for having accidentally perfect timing with the release of Gigaton. At a time when we were all retreating inside to stay healthy, hearing songs about losing touch with your fellow man and unable to establish some legitimate connection certainly hit a lot closer to home this time around. Those are some heavy topics though, so you need a palette cleanser like Never Destination to take the edge off.

In between the more off the wall singles like Dance of the Clairvoyants, this feels like an old score rocker with its age showing just a little bit, as if we're hearing Pearl Jam trying to interpret a long lost MC5 tune. Though the tempo isn't nearly as caustic as it was in the past, that lets you zero in more on the lyrics this time around, which are especially potent given the circumstances.

Since the majority of this album centers around the problems going on in the world, Eddie sounds almost sarcastic in his wordplay here, saying that there's going to be no clear destination of where we're headed. You can say that there's one clear solution to everything, but when you really boil down to it, you have to make sure that the rest of the world doesn't turn on you as well. That never destination is a pipedream, so be sure that you're going down the wrong path.
