10 Most Underrated Pearl Jam Songs

8. Inside Job - Pearl Jam

It really is a shame that we never got to see what the Avacado album could have looked like as a concept album. Since they were toying with the idea of making this about a soldier's journey through the Iraq war, you'd think Eddie Vedder's history as a Who fan would help him understand the idea of the rock opera. Even when you separate the missed opportunities though, Inside Job is one of the best closers that we could have hoped for.

Being one of the first songs with lyrics written by Mike McCready, Eddie really inhabits the character in this song, which plays out more like a movie scene across its 7 minutes. As much as some of it could have come off as corny, Vedder sounds incredibly sincere when talking about this guy making the most of the job he has even when not being sure if he'll truly survive.

Hell, if you wanted to put the pieces of the concept album together, this would have worked as a great sendoff for our protagonist, as he makes peace with the fact that he'd be going to war despite leaving all of his loved ones behind. The chances of our hero coming back might be slim, but he's going to do what he thinks is right for his country, and nothing is going to dissuade him from that.
